4 Ayurvedic oils that can help relieve joint pain

The winter is undoubtedly here and with the drop in temperature come a variety of ailments including joint pain. While there are medications that can be used to treat this condition, a more permanent solution without the side effects is Ayurveda. Ayurvedic oils are extremely useful in treating joint pain — especially during the winter months. We spoke to Mrs Gita Ramesh from the Kairali Ayurvedic Group to find out what Ayurvedic oils you can use to find some relief from the pain. Here are excerpts from the interview.

Why does a person suffer from joint pain especially in the winter?

In winter, the weather is windy, cold and dry which resembles the features of vata dosha. So due to the effect of weather, the activities of vata dosha in a person’s body increases, specifically in the joints. Since, increased vata absorbs the lubricating fluids in our joints, it leads to pain, stiffness and swelling in the joints.
How do Ayurvedic oils help reduce pain and inflammation one feels due to joint pain?
Ayurvedic therapies help in get rid of impurities that are embedded in tissues and helps liquefy them for easy absorption into circulation. This helps in the elimination of pain. Apart from this, warm oil massages are soothing and rejuvenating for the body and help imbalance caused due to vata dosha.
